High Court Considers Bail in Controversial Zubeen Garg Death Case

The Gauhati High Court is deliberating on a bail application submitted by Shyamkanu Mahanta, a primary suspect in the Zubeen Garg death case. The court has set May 22 for the next hearing, allowing time for additional document submissions and affidavits, as the case remains sensitive.

The Gauhati High Court on Friday reviewed the bail appeal filed by Shyamkanu Mahanta, a main suspect in the Zubeen Garg death incident. Justice Mitali Thakuria oversaw the proceedings, scheduling the next hearing for May 22, providing both parties time to present additional documents and affidavits.

Special Public Prosecutor Ziaul Kamar revealed that Mahanta's advocate contributed via video conference, requesting to submit new documents and an affidavit by May 18. The court acknowledged the need to thoroughly examine the extensive case records, considering the case's sensitive nature.

Advocate General Devajit Saikia participated in the hearing, indicating the possibility of raising objections after inspecting the presented documents. Previously, Mahanta's bail was denied by the special fast-track court due to the risk of flight, while Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma maintained that Garg's death was a murder.
