Vice President C P Radhakrishnan praised Sikkim for its swift developmental strides, announcing upcoming railway connectivity slated for next year at Sikkim's 51st State Day celebrations. This connectivity is expected to enhance tourism and economic growth in the region.
Radhakrishnan emphasized Sikkim's strategic geopolitical position, bordering China, Bhutan, and Nepal, as pivotal to national security. He lauded the state's commitment to preserving its rich cultural heritage alongside modern advancements, dubbing it 'a sentinel of the country.'
Highlighting Sikkim's status as a leader in organic farming, the Vice President acknowledged the efforts of 66,000 farmers utilizing 76,000 hectares for farming. With 47% forest cover, Sikkim is a national exemplar in ecological conservation, further underscoring its role as what Prime Minister Narendra Modi called 'the heaven of the East.'
