The documentary 'Prime Minister', which chronicles former New Zealand leader Jacinda Ardern's political career, has been awarded the top prize at the 2026 News & Documentary Emmys. The accolade was announced at the awards ceremony held at the Jazz at Lincoln Center's Frederick P. Rose Hall, with comedian and actor Michael Ian Black hosting the event.

Endorsed by HBO Documentary Films and CNN Films, 'Prime Minister' earned the title of the best documentary, offering an insightful narrative on Ardern's rise as New Zealand's 40th Prime Minister and highlighting her leadership journey.

Besides the top honour, Emmy-winning documentarian and Oscar-nominated filmmaker Sam Pollard received a lifetime achievement award. Additionally, documentaries such as 'Simon Schama: The Holocaust, 80 Years On', 'Tiler Peck: Suspending Time', and National Geographic's 'Secrets of the Penguins' were recognised for their contributions to historical, arts, and nature categories respectively.
