Karan Johar's Instagram Detox Sparks Social Media Buzz
Filmmaker Karan Johar created a stir by unfollowing numerous Instagram accounts, including Bollywood icons, as part of a digital detox. Johar clarified via Instagram that he was reducing time spent on social media. This follows his recent appearance at the 2026 Met Gala, showcasing Indian artistry.
On Thursday night, filmmaker Karan Johar surprised netizens when fans noticed he had dramatically reduced the number of accounts he follows on Instagram. Among those unfollowed were Bollywood stalwarts like Shah Rukh Khan, Kareena Kapoor Khan, and fashion designer Manish Malhotra, prompting widespread curiosity across social media platforms.
Before assumptions could spiral out of control, Johar took to Instagram to explain his actions. The director of iconic films such as 'Kuch Kuch Hota Hai' clarified that the decision to unfollow was part of a personal 'digital detox.' His intent, he stated, was to minimize the time and energy expended on the social media platform, urging followers not to sensationalize his personal choice.
The Instagram cleanse comes on the heels of Johar's recent triumph at the 2026 Met Gala, where he became India's first filmmaker to attend the prestigious event. Dressed in a custom ensemble by Manish Malhotra, Johar's appearance was a visual homage to Indian classical art, aligning seamlessly with the event's theme, 'Costume Art.' (ANI)
