In a surprising development, Netflix has suspended the production of the highly anticipated film 'Hannibal', starring Denzel Washington, as reported by Variety. The project, under the direction of Antoine Fuqua, has been put on hold due to budgetary challenges.

The film, which was gearing up for a summer shoot in Italy, has seen its timetable disrupted amid financial negotiations. Both the producers, including Fuqua and Washington, along with Netflix, are working diligently to address these budgetary concerns in hopes of moving forward with the project.

The film, based on a screenplay by Oscar-winner John Logan, tells the gripping story of Hannibal's famous battles against Rome during the Second Punic War. This project will be the sixth time Fuqua and Washington collaborate, following their recent success with 'The Equalizer 3'.
