The cancellation-rumour of Sherlock Season 5 wasn’t vague. Fans of the British crime drama television series had enough reasons to expect it not to return and the long delay is one of such vital reasons. The avid viewers are passionately waiting for the fifth season to come back, and the long-awaited official confirmation will surely be a befitting reply to all the rumours of its cancellation.

Another reason why Sherlock Season 5 is believed by a group of fans not to return is the finale-title of Season 4 that read ‘The Final Problem’. This typical title still creates lots of confusions among the avid viewers as they believe it has already marked end of the Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s Sherlock Holmes detective stories. But neither the real actors – Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman, nor the series creators Mark Gatiss and Steven Moffat have ever hinted that ‘The Final Problem’ marked the series’ end.

Instead, Steven Moffat made strong statements on Sherlock Season 5 and its continuation. According to TV Season & Spoilers, the new season may be Chapter 2 of Sherlock’s story. Moffat hinted that it would feature (Benedict Cumberbatch’s character) Sherlock and (Martin Freeman’s character) Dr. John Watson’s changed life and their journey ahead. Both Sherlock and Watson are consciously living in a myth and battling wrong-doers.

Rumour also swirled up that Benedict Cumberbatch wouldn’t return in Sherlock Season 5. Fortunately, the 42-year old actor denied all rumours and confirmed his return to the show saying “Nobody has ever closed the door on Sherlock.” Unfortunately, Martin Freeman has reportedly refused to reprise his role as Dr. Watson. He expressed, according to Telegraph, that his role in the series wasn’t a thing to be enjoyed. But since Dr. Watson is an important part of the series, he must be replaced by some other actor in case if he vows not to return.

On the other hand, another reason why Sherlock Season 5 must return is drawing a conclusion to The Walking Dead actress Eleanor Matsuura’s character Detective Inspector Stella Hopkins. She was introduced in Season 4’s premiere episode titled The Six Thatchers. She was seen visiting Baker Street apartment and sending a notion to assist Sherlock. But after that, as she was not invited, there surely lies a gap in the plot which makes a sensible chance for her in the series.
