Philippe Entremont, the legendary French pianist and conductor, returns to Hong Kong during the month of his 85th birthday to perform a special all-Beethoven programme with City Chamber Orchestra of Hong Kong (CCOHK) as part of the Le French May Arts Festival 2019.

The concert to be held on 26 June 2019 at the Hong Kong City Hall Concert Hall, 8:00 pm, features Philippe Entremont as soloist in Beethoven’s dramatic and sublime Piano Concerto No.4, and as guest conductor of CCOHK in the Overture to The Creatures of Prometheus and Beethoven’s heroic Symphony Number 3. Born in Reims in France, Philippe Entremont was aged 16 when he became Laureate at the International Long-Thibaud Competition. His debut at Carnegie Hall at the age of 18 followed by a highly successful performance with Eugene Ormandy and the Philadelphia Orchestra paved the way for an extraordinary solo career. Since then he has performed on five continents in almost every prestigious concert hall and festival around the world, and with most of the major orchestras. Philippe Entremont is also one of the most recorded classical artists of our time. His discography includes numerous recordings with many legendary conductors including Leonard Bernstein, Eugène Ormandy, Pierre Boulez and Seiji Ozawa.

Parallel to his piano and recording engagements, Philippe Entremont has pursued a successful career as a conductor. He has held the post of Music Director of the New Orleans Philharmonic Orchestra, the Denver Symphony Orchestra, the Netherlands Chamber Orchestra and the Vienna Chamber Orchestra where he has been honoured with the title of Lifetime Laureate Conductor. Additionally, Philippe Entremont has served on the juries of all the major piano competitions including the ARD International Music Competition in Munich, the International Fryderyk Chopin Piano Competition, the Van Cliburn International Piano Competition and the Leeds International Piano Competition. In 2018 he was appointed President of the Jury of the 2018 Enescu International Piano Competition in Bucharest.
