'Loki' will be 'new departure', says Tom Hiddleston

Tom Hiddleston has teased about the series, "Loki" and said the upcoming Disney+ project will be a "new departure" for the audience. The actor, who has played the God of Mischief in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, will reprise his role as the Avengers anti-hero for a stand-alone spin-off.

Asked where the TV series takes the character, Hiddleston gave a guarded reply, "All I can tell you is that it is called 'Loki'. It is a new departure... but I can't explain why." He was speaking to The Hollywood Reporter on the sidelines of the Shanghai International Film Festival, which concluded on Monday.

The 38-year-old actor said he is constantly surprised and elated about how the MCU films have established a strong audience connect. Hiddleston said Loki getting a new lease of life on Disney+ was something he did not expect. "I knew he was a complex figure. Intelligent yet vulnerable. Angry and lost and broken and witty. I thought it was an amazing opportunity and it's grown into this network of movies. I could never have expected it. I feel fortunate that this character has connected with people," he added. Disney+ is slated to be launched on November 12 in the US.
