As Shahid Kapoor-starrer "Kabir Singh" inches closer to Rs 150 crore mark and continuing with its magic on the Box Office, the original Telugu film, "Arjun Reddy", has started trending on social media. "Arjun Reddy" was released back in 2017 and was directed by the same director, Sandeep Reddy Vanga.
"Kabir Singh", played by Shahid Kapoor, is the third take on the story, which was also remade in Tamil as "Adithya Varma". All three versions, however, have drawn criticism for their depiction of toxic masculinity as the central character, a doctor, descends into self-destruction and alcoholism following a heartbreak.
Although Kabir Singh is nearly a frame-to-frame replica of Arjun Reddy with a few minor adjustments, the setting is completely different. Arjun Reddy was set in Hyderabad while Kabir Singh has a Delhi-touch to it.
Even as Shahid Kapoor nailed the role of Kabir Singh, Vijay Deverakonda seems to be even more magnificent while portraying Arjun Reddy in the original blockbuster.
Where to watch?
Arjun Reddy is available on Amazon Prime Video and even if you don't understand Telugu, Prime Video has perfectly-placed English and Hindi subtitles ready for you.
