Catherine Hardwicke to helm female-led Viking fantasy 'Heathen'

Catherine Hardwicke will next direct the female-centric Viking action-fantasy film, "Heathen". The live-action movie is an adaptation of the Vault Comics series of the same name that mixes Norse mythology, Vikings, and a dash of queer heroism into one epic story.

Kerry Williamson has adapted the script from comic book series, which was penned by Natasha Alterici, reported Variety. The story follows warrior Aydis, an outcast gay woman born into a time of warfare, suffering, and subjugation of women. She is on a mission to end the oppressive reign of the god-king Odin.

The project will be produced by Constantin Film and Prime Universe Films. Hardwicke, 63, will also executive produce along with Constantin's Martin Moszkowicz and Vault CEO Damian Wassel.
