Standardization of workforce possible through RPL certification: MESC

The Film Employees Federation of South India (FEFSI) is an Indian organization consisting of technicians from the Tamil film industry.At present there are approximately 16,000 members eligible for an RPL certification.

The Film Employees Federation of South India (FEFSI) hosted the All India Film Workers Solidarity Day Ceremony today at Kamala theatre in Chennai. The ceremony aimed at distributing Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) certificates as well as RPL Identity Card to the members present.

The Film Employees Federation of South India (FEFSI) is an Indian organization consisting of technicians from the Tamil film industry. A total of 22 unions belonging to different trades in the film and television industry are affiliated to the FEFSI that has around 25,000 members. At present, there are approximately 16,000 members eligible for an RPL certification.

Speaking at the event on RPL, Mr. Mohit Soni, CEO, Media & Entertainment Skills Council (MESC) said, "This is the first time Film Employees get Central Government ID Card. RPL certification ensures that the candidates can work in any region across the globe. There are approximately 16,000 members in FEFSI which are qualified for RPL certification and with that number, the recognition goes a long way in terms of standardization of workforce as per the National Skills Qualification Framework in the media and entertainment industry."

Highlighting the important role RPL certification plays for the industry, Mr. R.K Selvamani, President, FEFSI thanked Media & Entertainment Skills Council (MESC) and Ministry of Skills Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE) for the continued support in making the certification on such a large scale possible. He further stressed on the role RPL certification will play in providing recognition to the formal or informal learning through work in the media and entertainment industry.

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) is a platform to provide recognition to the informal learning or learning through work to get equal acceptance as the formal levels of education. It aims to appreciate prior learning irrespective of the medium of achieving it. In short, RPL is a process of assessment of an individual's prior learning to give due importance to learning as an outcome rather than learning as a process.
