The cancellation rumor of Sherlock Season 5 was not vague. It is yet to receive official renewal update from BBC One. All the previous four seasons of the popular British crime drama television series starring Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman won millions of hearts across the globe. Thus fans believe Season 5 will surely take place anytime.
Many fans consider Sherlock Season 5 will not return. Simply finishing the show with rightly demonstrating the ends or unravelling the previous cliffhangers will be injustice and breaking hearts of many. Based on several reports, Season 5 is actually not cancelled and there is a chance of making it. But it will not be released in 2020.
According to The Digital Weekly, Sherlock Season 5 will be launched in 2022 after completing all of its major projects. It is said that BBC One certainly does not want to take away Sherlock due to other projects. If luck favors, it will return in 2022 with the main stars and their two co-stars.
Fans may be wondering why Sherlock Season 5 has not been given any hints by BBC. Had BBC dropped any hint on the next season, it would have become an official confirmation. Maybe, Mark Gatiss and Steven Moffat are not in a state to make this happen, as, we have come to know, the production will take much time as they have started filming on Dracula on the first week of March this year. That's the reason BBC has not dropped any hint on the fifth season.

"You could go back, but there are no immediate plans,""Mark Gatiss said. (Instead of Sherlock Season 5) they wanted to bring back another fictional detective on the screens named Columbo. "I really tried with Columbo. I did have a decent go at it, but the rights are really tied up," he opined.
