The St. Louis Cardinals scratched right-hander Luke Weaver from his Sunday start because of a cut index finger on his pitching hand.
Weaver suffered the cut while removing the aluminium foil from a food container during Saturday night's game.
Tyson Ross replaced Weaver as the starter for the Sunday contest against the Kansas City Royals. It represents the right-hander's first appearance since St. Louis claimed him on waivers from the San Diego Padres on Aug. 5.
Ross went 6-9 with a 4.45 ERA in 22 starts for the Padres. Overall, he is 41-65 with a 3.99 ERA in 187 career appearances (134 starts) in nine major league seasons.
