Rededicate ourselves to a developed India: Pondy Lt Governor

Puducherry Lieutenant Governor Kiran Bedi today said, "We, Indians, must rededicate themselves to an inclusive, a developed and just India." In her message on the eve of the 71st independence, the former IPS officer said she deemed it 'a great joy and privilege to convey her best wishes to every citizen of the country'.

She said, "No other country matches India's extraordinary a mix of ethnic groups, a profusion of mutually varying languages, varieties of topography and climate, diversity of faiths and cultural practices and disparate levels of economic development".

"India has grown into a self-sufficient and exporting a nation which has progressed considerably in building infrastructure while there still is scope for improved education, better health, rural development, infrastructure and economic policies", she said in the message.

"For the nation to attain its glory every Indian has to contribute and be the change he or she wants to see. True to the call of the Prime Minister if every Indian takes a step forward, the nation will take 1.2 million steps forward", she said.

Puducherry also celebrates its 57th De Jure Transfer Day on August 16. She conveyed her best wishes to the people of the Union Territory for peace, prosperity, and well-being.

Chief Minister V Narayanasamy, in his message on the eve of Independence Day, said it was the duty of every citizen to recall the sacrifices of the freedom fighters who had made the country independent. He said the Congress-DMK coalition ministry headed by him has overcome 'several obstacles and successfully implemented welfare measures.'

The revenue generated by the administration, overall development in various sectors and per capita income have increased substantially, the Chief Minister said.

The successful implementation of welfare schemes was basically owing to sustained cooperation the people have extended to the government, he added.

Assembly Speaker V Vaithilingam, PWD Minister A Namassivayam, Member of Parliament (Lok Sabha) R Radhakrishnan and leaders of various political parties also extended them greetings to the people.
