Turkish restaurant offers free fish sandwiches for those who convert dollar to lira

In Istanbul, Turkey, a restaurant has joined a campaign to support the national currency, the lira, which has recently fallen sharply and has offered many fish sandwiches to many in the city free of charge to Turks who are responding to President Recep Tayyip Erdogan's call to turn the US dollar into a liar.
This is one of many free offers offered by vendors across Turkey that support Erdogan's nationalistic sentiments, offering anything from orchids and gasoline to a three-day stay at a hotel for those who carry receipts of dollars to the pound.
If customers can prove that they have paid USD 100 in lira, Adnan Glicker, a restaurant owner in Istanbul, will give them a free fish sandwich.
The goal here is to make our voice heard and show our reaction, Gliker said to Reuters.
The restaurant, which runs Gliker on the coast, allows customers to enjoy their meal on a nearby boat.
Glicker's restaurant page is displayed with a hand-held handheld in Turkish flag colors above a crisp USD 100 cash paper.
Erdogan appealed to the people to support the weak pound by switching gold and foreign currencies, saying Turkey was facing a "trade war".
The lira fell to a record USD 7.24 to the dollar this week after losing about half of its value this year as investors worried about Erdogan's influence on fiscal policy and a dispute with the United States.
