A Uttar Pradesh state transport bus met with an accident today in Greater Noida, killing one person and injuring seven others, police said.

The incident was reported around 5 am near Loharali village on the National Highway 91, under Dadri Police Station limits, they said.

The bus was en route to Delhi from Shahjahanpur (UP), Station House Officer Ram Sen Singh said.

"The driver of the bus apparently became drowsy following which the speeding bus got into the farmland adjoining the road and turned upside down," he said.

One person, identified as Ram Kumar (35), a resident of Shahjahanpur, suffered critical wounds and was referred to the Dadri Hospital where he succumbed to the injuries, the SHO said.

Others injured were given first aid and relieved, he added.

He said the police have registered a case of negligence against the bus driver, who is absconding.

Further probe is underway, he said.
