Mets 3B Wright to continue rehab at Triple-A

New York Mets third baseman David Wright will join Triple-A Las Vegas to continue his rehab assignment, the team announced Tuesday.

Wright had been with Class-A Advanced St. Lucie, where he hit .188 with two RBIs in 10 games.

Wright, 35, last played in the major leagues on May 27, 2016. The seven-time All-Star has been sidelined by back, shoulder and neck issues related to the spinal stenosis he has suffered from for many years.

Though Wright is a step closer to a potential return, Mets assistant general manager John Ricco cautioned to reporters that it's "unrealistic" to expect a call-up soon.

Manager Mickey Callaway offered a similar assessment on Monday.

"We're just trying to focus on the next day with David," Callaway said. "It's been such a long road, and I think it'd be unfair to everyone to have any kind of expectations other than knowing that we support whatever he's doing day to day."

Wright is a career .296 hitter in the majors, with 242 home runs and 970 RBIs. He is earning $20 million this season and has $27 million remaining on his eight-year, $138 million contract that runs through 2020.
