Capitals sign KHL vet Shumakov

The Washington Capitals signed a one-year, two-way entry-level contract with KHL forward Sergei Shumakov on Saturday, general manager Brian MacLellan announced.

The deal is worth $925,000.

Shumakov, who turns 26 this week, played for CSKA Moscow last season, tying for the team lead with 40 points on 17 goals and 23 assists.

The 6-foot forward from Chelyabinsk, Russia also led the KHL in plus/minus rating (+28).

Shumakov has played in the KHL since the 2011-12 season and has 74 goals and 71 assists in 282 career games.
