''To achieve the Prime minister's dream of doubling farmers' income by 2022, the centre and state governments, and farmers of the country are working in unison,'' an official statement quoted Tomar as saying.

Even during the pandemic, the agriculture sector stood the test of time and farmers pulled off bumper harvests. Even in Goa, the farm sector steamed ahead even though tourism took a backseat during the pandemic, he noted.

Highlighting central schemes like PM-KISAN launched to strengthen small farmers, Tomar said the Centre is promoting setting up 10,000 Farmer Producer Organisations (FPOs) by 2027-28 with a total budgetary outlay of Rs 6,865 crore and this scheme is ''successfully being implemented in Goa.'' Speaking at the event, Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant said, ''Advanced technology and new techniques in the sector are attracting youths towards agriculture in the state.'' He also urged people to take up integrated farming in the form of agriculture, horticulture, dairy farming, pisciculture and floriculture together.

Rajya Sabha MP Vinay Tendulkar, Quepem Municipal Council Chairperson Suchita Shirwaikar, among others, were present at the event.
