French finance minister Le Maire will launch 500 controls on five big retailers to check if they comply with the EGALIM law, a law designed to safeguard farmgate prices but which protesting farmers say is not well enforced, he said on Wednesday during an interview with French radio CNews/Europe 1.

Le Maire added that he will also launch specific controls on European retail purchasing unions over EGALIM.
