In a tragic incident that underscores the perils of social media, two teenagers were run over by a train while attempting to capture selfies and shoot reels in Maharashtra's Nashik district, according to an official from the Government Railway Police (GRP).
The ill-fated event took place on Saturday evening near the Valdevi river bridge. The victims, identified as Sanket Kailas Rathod and Sachin Dilip Karwar, were engrossed in their mobile phones and failed to notice the approaching train.
Both boys, students of Bhatia College in Deolali Camp who recently completed their Class 11 examinations, died instantly. Railway police promptly responded to the scene following the alert.
