Farmers’ Fury: Highway Blockade Over Drought Relief Delay

Several hundred farmers in Renapur tehsil blocked the Latur-Ambejogai highway to protest against delays in distributing drought relief measures. Despite Renapur being declared as drought-affected, eligible farmers haven't received the subsidies. The protest included a symbolic gate closure of the tehsil office and a sit-in on the highway.

Several hundred farmers in Renapur tehsil staged a two-hour blockade on the Latur-Ambejogai highway on Monday, demanding timely distribution of drought subsidies and relief measures.

Despite Renapur's designation as a drought-affected area, the majority of eligible farmers reportedly have not received any relief. Gajan Bolange of the Shetkari Sanghatana, the organization behind the protest, revealed that over 70 percent of qualified farmers are still awaiting their dues despite completing all required Know Your Customer (KYC) formalities.

The protestors, led by Dattaji Shingde, symbolically closed the gate of Renapur tehsil office and submitted a memorandum of demands to nayab tehsildar Ugle. They warned of escalating their protests if the relief measures are not delivered by June 20.
