The Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) has kicked off a recruitment drive to fill 49 officer positions across multiple departments. This initiative aims to bolster its regulatory operations for better market oversight. The recruitment process, which includes three phases, will commence on July 27.

Originally set to start in April but postponed due to the General Elections, the online application window is now open until June 30. SEBI is looking to hire 34 officers for its General stream, 10 for IT, and a few for legal, engineering, research, and official language departments.

This move comes as part of SEBI's ongoing effort to strengthen its team; in recent years, numerous recruitment drives have been conducted. SEBI was established in 1988 and gained statutory powers in 1992 following the Harshad Mehta scam, with the mandate to protect investor interests and regulate securities markets.
