Massive Balkan Blackout: Montenegrin Operators Investigate

A massive blackout affecting the Balkans has been traced to a regional fault. Montenegro's Energy Minister, Sasa Mujovic, stated that the malfunction was due to a heavy load on the grid caused by a sudden spike in power consumption and high temperatures.

The malfunction that led to a massive blackout across the Balkans was of a regional character and Montenegrin operators are trying to determine where exactly the fault is, Montenegro's Energy Minister Sasa Mujovic said on Friday.

"The malfunction occurred as a result of a heavy load on the grid, a sudden increase in power consumption due to high temperature and the high temperatures," he said.
