The 53rd meeting of the GST Council resulted in a significant decision: the reduction of the Goods and Service Tax (GST) on all kinds of carton boxes from 18 percent to 12 percent.
Himachal Pradesh, having long advocated for this change to assist apple horticulturists, stands to benefit considerably from the reduction. Both the horticulture sector and related industries will see cost savings, a statement noted.
Industries Minister Harshwardhan Chauhan, representing Himachal Pradesh at the council, expressed gratitude for the unanimous decision. He highlighted that the move would also alleviate working capital costs for the industry.
Additionally, the council took multiple measures aimed at reducing compliance burdens and addressing the grievances of small and medium-sized taxpayers.
The state's delegation, including Commissioner State Taxes and Excise Yunus and Additional Commissioners (GST) Rakesh Sharma, participated actively. The meeting was held in New Delhi, following the 52nd GST Council meeting on October 7, 2023.
