Former IAF Chief Clears Confusion on Agniveer Compensation Delays

Retired Indian Air Force Chief RKS Bhadauria discussed the ex-gratia settlement process for a fallen Agniveer soldier's family, highlighting the detailed guidelines that stretch the process over two to three months. He explained the steps involved and addressed concerns regarding the time required to finalize payments.

'There is a process for ex-gratia and other payments. If it's a battle or physical casualty, the government manages it. This involves verifying reports from post-mortems, inquiries, and police, which often extend the timeline,' Bhadauria said in an ANI interview.

Addressing delays in disbursement, Bhadauria emphasized the detailed communication and support given to bereaved families by unit personnel. He acknowledged that families might experience confusion due to trauma, but stressed that financial guidance is always provided.

'Insurance amounts are promptly credited to the next of kin, defined clearly in advance. In Agniveer's case, the Government pays the insurance, unlike regular soldiers who contribute from their salary,' Bhadauria noted.

Amid ongoing disputes over compensation for Agniveer Ajay Kumar's family, Bhadauria clarified that a portion has been disbursed, with the rest pending necessary paperwork completion. The Army has already paid Rs 98.39 lakh, including insurance and government allowances, while further ex-gratia from the central welfare fund awaits police reports.

In conclusion, Bhadauria stated Agniveer Ajay Kumar's family would receive an additional Rs 67 lakh, bringing the total compensation to Rs 1.65 crore. Kumar was killed in a landmine blast in Rajouri, sparking controversy over compensation transparency.

The confusion over financial aid and the consequential political fallout between the ruling BJP and opposition parties underscores the importance of clear communication in such sensitive matters.
