The Andhra Pradesh Police on Wednesday intercepted two separate cannabis transportation operations, seizing contraband valued at ₹40 lakhs in the area of Motugudem Police Station, Chintoor Circle, Alluri District. Assistant Superintendent of Police Rahul Meena announced the grand total of the seized cannabis amounts to around ₹40 lakhs.
In one operation, the police confiscated approximately 550 kg of ganja being smuggled from Motugudem to Morena, Madhya Pradesh, hidden in a van. The police identified five individuals from Madhya Pradesh — Amit Giri, Shiva Dayal Dore, Alok Gotham, Ranjit Mavai, and Durgesh Goswami — who procured the ganja from a person named Sanjeev from Odisha, loading it in a forest on the outskirts of Motugudem village before transporting it to Madhya Pradesh.
While some suspects, including Gennu, Ranjith Mawai, Durgesh Goswami, and Sanjeev, remain on the run, the police later apprehended one absconding suspect while he was transporting an additional 250 kg of ganja from Mangampadu to Hyderabad via Bhadrachalam in a car. The arrested individual, identified as Majji Venkat Sumanth, revealed in a press conference presided over by ASP Rahul Meena, highlighted that many locals unknowingly rent their vehicles to cannabis traffickers who provide false information for leasing.
