Tripura Government Vigilant on HIV-Positive Students, Clarifies Data Context

Tripura CM Manik Saha reassured vigilant measures for HIV-positive students. The Tripura State AIDS Control Society clarified that reported figures span 17 years. Launched in 1999, the program provides free treatment. The society urged accurate interpretation of cumulative HIV statistics in the state.

Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha has emphasized the government's commitment to addressing the issue of HIV-positive students in the state. Speaking to ANI, CM Saha assured that comprehensive measures have been undertaken to protect youths and students from AIDS.

In light of recent media reports, the Tripura State AIDS Control Society clarified that the cited number of HIV-positive students is a cumulative figure collected over 17 years. Initial reports indicated that 828 students tested positive, with 47 fatalities. The society described these reports as misleading and provided detailed context.

According to a press release, the National AIDS Control Programme was launched in Tripura in April 1999. Over 25 years, the state's AIDS Control Society has diligently managed HIV following National AIDS Control Organisation (NACO) guidelines. The figures represent data collected from April 2007 to May 2024, with all identified students receiving free anti-retroviral treatment.

The Tripura State AIDS Control Society urged the public and media to consider the broader context and cumulative timeframe when interpreting HIV case figures in the state.
