CBI Arrests Odisha GST Superintendent for Accepting Bribe

CBI arrested Odisha Superintendent of Central GST and Central Excise, Manoj Kumar Subudhi, for accepting a Rs 15,000 bribe to process GST refunds. The sting operation also led to the recovery of incriminating documents. Further investigation continues.

On Thursday, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) apprehended Manoj Kumar Subudhi, Superintendent of Central GST and Central Excise in Odisha, for allegedly accepting a bribe to expedite a GST refund process. Subudhi, stationed at Berhampur in Ganjam district, was caught red-handed while receiving Rs 15,000 from the complainant.

According to sources, Subudhi had demanded a total bribe of Rs 20,000, arguing that he had previously facilitated a GST refund of Rs 1.77 lakh for the complainant and promised to process another refund of approximately Rs 3 lakhs. This led the CBI to initiate a case on July 9, setting a trap for the implicated officer.

The operation culminated in Subudhi's arrest in Berhampur, and subsequent searches at his residence and official premises in Berhampur and Bhubaneswar unearthed incriminating documents. The accused is set to be presented before the Special Judge for CBI cases in Bhubaneswar for further legal proceedings. The investigation remains ongoing.
