In anticipation of the upcoming Haryana assembly elections, Congress MP Deepender Singh Hooda has launched a grassroots initiative called 'Haryana Maange Hisaab' on July 15. The campaign aims to highlight the shortcomings of the BJP government and communicate Congress's announcements to the public. The initiative also seeks public suggestions for the party manifesto to address Haryana's problems effectively if Congress forms the government.
The campaign's objective is to engage directly with the populace by presenting 15 critical questions to the government through a specially prepared booklet. During a media briefing, Hooda emphasized the party's intention to involve the public in shaping the manifesto by including their demands.
Addressing a press conference in Chandigarh, Hooda stated, "The Congress party has posed 15 questions to the government through the 'Haryana Maange Hisaab' booklet. We will disseminate these questions via a door-to-door campaign and ask for public feedback and their expectations from Congress. Rahul Gandhi's mindset has driven us to incorporate public feedback into our manifesto." He added, "We will solicit opinions on what people expect once Congress forms the state government. Our manifesto will be a people's manifesto."
In a significant development preceding the state assembly elections, the Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) and Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) have announced a coalition. Abhay Singh Chautala, Secretary General of INLD, declared that both parties would contest the upcoming Haryana elections together.
"We have decided to jointly contest the upcoming assembly elections in Haryana. The general sentiment among the populace is to oust the BJP from power while avoiding Congress, which misgoverned the state for ten years," Chautala mentioned in a press conference. He further criticized Congress leader Bhupinder Singh Hooda, calling him an "agent" of the BJP. "Former CM Bhupinder Singh Hooda has proven to be an agent of the BJP. We will fulfill all our promises," he asserted. The Haryana Assembly elections are set to take place this year across 90 Assembly seats, with the current tenure ending on November 3, 2024.
