Union Minister Jitendra Singh has commended the new Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi for his extensive expertise and experience, deeming him a valuable asset to the Indian Army. Singh welcomed General Dwivedi, who took charge as the 30th Chief of Army Staff, and engaged in discussions on Thursday.

Singh expressed his pleasure on social media, stating, "Pleased to receive General Upendra Dwivedi who called on after officially taking charge as the 30th Chief of the Army Staff. The new Army Chief's wide range of expertise and experience will certainly be an asset to the Indian Army which is among the best forces in the world." General Dwivedi, an ace infantry officer with a vast operational background, assumed command last month.

General Upendra Dwivedi, from the Jammu and Kashmir Rifles, was the Vice Chief of Army Staff since February this year. A native of Madhya Pradesh, he studied at Sainik School Rewa and joined the National Defence Academy in 1981, later being commissioned into the 18th Battalion of the Jammu and Kashmir Rifles in 1984. Known for his excellence in sports and military training, General Dwivedi has a distinguished career with significant roles in combat operations across Northern, Western, and Eastern theaters.

He commanded his battalion during active counter-terrorism operations in Kashmir and Rajasthan, and held key positions in Assam Rifles. In 2022-2024, he led the Northern Army, providing strategic guidance and overseeing sustained operations. His tenure included modernizing the largest Indian Army Command and fostering regional development under the Atmanirbhar Bharat initiative. (ANI)
