Partial Resumption of Traffic on Badrinath Highway Post-Landslide

Traffic has partially resumed on the Badrinath National Highway near Joshimath after being obstructed by a landslide on Saturday. Currently, only small vehicles and pedestrians are permitted to navigate the route.

The highway had reopened for pedestrians on Thursday, as documented by SDRF Uttarakhand Police in a video on X. The footage depicts SDRF personnel aiding pilgrims and polling parties in traversing the landslide-affected area on foot. "District Chamoli: On July 11, 2024, Badrinath National Highway was opened for pedestrians and polling parties. The passengers are being helped safely to cross the road by the SDRF jawans," SDRF Uttarakhand Police stated on X.

Earlier disruptions occurred on Wednesday when a landslide from the hill near Patal Ganga Langsi tunnel blocked the road. Heavy rain in Uttarakhand over recent days has led to multiple landslides, with the highway at several points obstructed by rubble. On July 5, traffic on the highway in Chamoli district was halted for hours due to debris at two locations.

Additionally, Chamoli District Magistrate Himanshu Khurana reported on X that road blockages in Joshimath have necessitated the transportation of polling parties and materials from remote polling stations via helicopter to Gopeshwar.
