Pilgrims Embark on Amarnath Yatra Amid Unprecedented Security

A fresh group of pilgrims started their journey to Amarnath under tight security from Srinagar to Baltal and Pahalgam base camps. The pilgrimage comes amid increased terror threats, prompting enhanced security measures such as electronic surveillance and access control.

Amidst stringent security measures, a new group of pilgrims commenced their Amarnath Yatra from Srinagar's Panthachowk base camp on Monday morning. The enthusiastic devotees are set to travel to the iconic shrine, with routes leading to Baltal and Pahalgam base camps.

The Shri Amarnathji Shrine Board orchestrates the Yatra, which includes two primary routes: one through Pahalgam, and the other via Baltal. The latter serves as the principal camping area in Ganderbal district for the pilgrims.

This year's pilgrimage unfolds in the shadow of a surge in terror attacks across Jammu and Kashmir. Recent incidents, including an assault on an army convoy in Kathua and encounters in Doda and Udhampur, have heightened security concerns.

Authorities have implemented unprecedented safety protocols, such as electronic surveillance and strict access controls along the Yatra route. To ensure orderly movement, Jammu and Kashmir Traffic Police released guidelines on July 6, specifying timings and instructions for convoy and non-convoy travel along National Highway 44.

The 52-day Yatra, which commenced on June 29 and will conclude on August 19, invites Lord Shiva’s devotees to undertake the challenging journey to the sacred cave nestled in the Kashmir Himalayas. (ANI)
