Gujarat's Groundbreaking Aadhaar-based GST Verification to Go National

The Gujarat government’s GST Seva Kendra (GSK) project, which uses Aadhaar-based verification to prevent fake GST registrations, is set to be implemented nationwide. The state introduced face-identification verification to streamline GST registration. The process has led to a 24.30% decline in registration applications, showcasing its success.

The GST Seva Kendra (GSK) project initiated by the Gujarat government, utilizing Aadhaar-based verification to identify and prevent bogus GST registrations, will be expanded across India with an advanced face authentication feature, announced state Finance Minister Kanubhai Desai on Monday.

Gujarat became the pioneer state to implement face-identification verification through Aadhaar to streamline the GST registration process and curb fraudulent activities. This initiative began last November in twelve major business centers and has since been recognized for its effectiveness.

Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman launched these GSKs, and following their success, it was decided in the 53rd GST Council meeting to replicate this model nationwide. The initiative aims to enhance the ease of doing business and further control bogus billing.
