Muharram Processions Bring Arrests and Controversies Across India

Muharram processions marking the eighth day of mourning saw significant events across India. In Srinagar, processions proceeded peacefully. In Bihar's Nawada, three individuals were arrested for waving Palestinian flags, while in Uttar Pradesh, police placed several people, including 'Raja Saheb', under house arrest to prevent potential disturbances.

Muharram processions were taken out across the nation on Monday, marking the eighth day of mourning for Prophet Muhammad's grandson. In Srinagar, the Shia community observed the day for a second consecutive year, with some mourners waving Palestinian flags and calling for an end to violence in Palestine.

The procession in Kashmir followed the traditional Guru Bazar-Dalgate route peacefully. This procession had been banned since the outbreak of militancy in Kashmir but was allowed this year under controlled conditions.

In Bihar’s Nawada district, three individuals were arrested for waving Palestinian flags during a procession, which took place without permission. Police in Uttar Pradesh also took preemptive measures, including placing several individuals under house arrest to prevent unrest, and launched an investigation after provocative slogans were raised during a procession in Amethi.
