Karnataka's New Reservation Bill Faces Industrialist Backlash: Minister Assures Resolution

Following Karnataka's approval of a bill reserving 100% government and 75% private sector jobs for locals, industrialists voiced concerns. Commerce Minister MB Patil promised wide consultations to address worries, stressing the importance of balancing local and industrial interests during this competitive era of industrialization.

In response to concerns from Karnataka's industrialists over a new bill mandating 100% reservation for Kannadigas in "C&D" grade government jobs, state Commerce and Industries Minister MB Patil assured that extensive consultations will be held to resolve the issue. Speaking to ANI on Wednesday, Patil emphasized that the interests of both Kannadigas and industries will be protected.

"Many people have expressed apprehension about this bill. We will resolve this confusion after a thorough discussion with the Chief Minister and other relevant ministers to ensure no adverse effects," Patil stated. He added that keeping the interests of Kannadigas paramount was crucial, and discussions will involve various state leaders to secure a balanced outcome.

Highlighting the competitive landscape spurred by the global China Plus One policy, Patil noted that states like Karnataka must remain at their competitive peak. He assured that the state would safeguard everyone's interests during this industrial revolution.

Patil also addressed concerns from several industry leaders who criticized the bill as "discriminatory" and potentially damaging to the tech industry. He reiterated the state's commitment to securing jobs for Kannada speakers without compromising industrial progress.

On Tuesday, the Karnataka Cabinet approved the bill, which also seeks to reserve 50% of management and 75% of non-management jobs for locals in the private sector. CM Siddaramaiah affirmed the priority of the government to protect the welfare of Kannadigas, stating that the bill aims to prevent job deprivation among locals and to support comfortable living standards in Karnataka.
