On Wednesday, Punjab Police successfully dismantled a Pakistan-backed drug smuggling operation with the apprehension of two suspects and the seizure of 7 kg of heroin and five pistols. The police also recovered live cartridges and magazines during the operation.
The arrested individuals, Gurmukh Singh and Jagwant Singh, both residents of Punjab's Tarn Taran district, were found in possession of the illicit items. According to Director-General of Police (DGP) Punjab Gaurav Yadav, this marks a significant achievement in the state's ongoing efforts to enhance safety and security under the vision of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann.
DGP Yadav noted that the police acted on a tip-off and conducted a special operation near Gharinda, leading to the arrests. The suspects disclosed the location of hidden heroin, which was subsequently recovered. Preliminary investigations suggest that the accused had direct links with Pakistan-based smugglers and were using drones to smuggle contraband. Further investigations are underway to identify more links and confiscate the smugglers' illegal properties.
