Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu has praised the Kurung Kumey district police for their diligent efforts in ensuring that essential supplies reached villages affected by recent landslides. 'Kudos to the Kurung Kumey district police for their exceptional humanitarian service! During the recent landslides and road cuts, they ensured essential supplies reached affected villages like Chaching, Sarli, Palo, Raktepu, and more,' Khandu stated in a post on 'X'.

Guided by SP Kurung Kumey and DySP HQ, the police courageously traversed the perilous terrain, covering 6 km on foot to deliver vital rations. 'Keep up the good work!' the Chief Minister added. Last week, Khandu held a high-level meeting to evaluate the overall damage and plan immediate restoration efforts throughout the state.

Highlighting the urgency, the Chief Minister emphasized the importance of swiftly restoring road connectivity in flood-affected districts. 'Early restoration of roads snapped due to floods and landslides is crucial for ensuring access to essential services and aid,' he noted.

Special funds have been allocated for the rapid restoration of the critical road link from Parsi-Parlo to Koloriang, including the bridge over the Kumey River. 'The restoration plan must be prepared and implemented without delay,' directed Khandu.

Khandu also stressed that immediate restoration work should begin in the Kurung Kumey region and other affected districts isolated due to incessant rains. He instructed relevant departments to ensure timely provision of essential medicines and food supplies to these areas.

The Chief Minister was further briefed about the successful efforts by Kurung Kumey district administration to reopen the Damin road for vehicular movement after it had been cut off due to constant rains and floods. On July 18, Khandu had requested the Union Civil Aviation Ministry to increase flight connectivity to and from Donyi Polo Airport, Itanagar, to improve connectivity, tourism, and commerce.

In a letter addressed to Union Civil Aviation Minister Kinjarapu Rammohan Naidu, Khandu pointed out that currently, one flight operates to and from the Donyi Polo Airport to Kolkata (six times weekly) and New Delhi (four times weekly). The Chief Minister's Office noted that these flights often operate at full capacity, leading to high travel fares and ticket unavailability during medical or other urgencies. (ANI)
