Assam State Assembly's Autumn Session Set for August 22 Start

The Assam state assembly's autumn session will begin on August 22, 2024, as ordered by Governor Gulab Chand Kataria on July 18. Major bills and key university changes were discussed during last year's session, held from September 12 to 19, 2023.

The Autumn Session of the Assam state assembly is set to commence on August 22, 2024, according to an order issued by the Governor of Assam, Gulab Chand Kataria, on July 18.

In the official order, Governor Kataria exercised his powers under Article 174(1) of the Constitution of India, summoning the assembly to meet at 9.30 am at the Assembly Chamber in Dispur. Last year, the autumn session took place from September 12 to 19, 2023.

During the 2023 session, six bills aimed at establishing new universities and making changes to seven existing ones were introduced. Noteworthy among them was the passage of the Assam Panchayat (Amendment) Bill, 2023 by voice vote. Other significant bills included amendments to the Guwahati Metropolitan Development Authority, Assam Public Safety Enforcement, Assam Gratuity, Assam Tea Plantation Provident Fund, and the Assam Backward Classes Commission.

Earlier this year, the Assam Legislative Assembly convened its budget session in February. Assam Finance Minister Ajanta Neog presented a monumental annual state budget worth Rs 2.9 lakh crore for the financial year 2024-25 on February 12, 2024.
