Gujarat and Taiwan to Enhance Trade Ties in Semiconductor Sector

Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel met with Taiwan's Homer CY Chang to discuss strengthening trade relations, particularly in semiconductor and electronics sectors. They explored opportunities for collaboration and Taiwan's potential role in developing Gujarat's high-tech industries.

Gandhinagar: In a significant move to bolster trade relations, Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel welcomed Homer CY Chang, Director General of the Mumbai-based Economic and Cultural Centre of Taiwan, on Friday. The meeting took place after Chang attended the Gujarat Semiconnect Conference-2024.

Chang expressed keen interest in enhancing trade ties with Gujarat, especially in the semiconductor and electronics sectors. He sought support from both the Government of India and the State Government to attract Taiwanese investors to Gujarat, and proposed establishing a State Office of Taiwan to further cultural exchanges.

Chief Minister Patel emphasized the state's eagerness to leverage Taiwan's expertise in creating Semicon City in Dholera, akin to Taiwan's Hsinchu Science Park. He invited the Taiwan delegation to explore opportunities in Dholera and Sanand for high-end electronics industries.

Senior officials including Chief Secretary Rajkumar, Additional Chief Secretary to Chief Minister Pankaj Joshi, and others attended the meeting. Patel later posted about the discussions on his official X handle, highlighting the potential benefits of Taiwan's expertise in developing Gujarat's semiconductor capabilities.
