In anticipation of the festival season, Jaipur Greater Municipal Corporation Mayor Somya Gurjar announced that meat shops will only be granted licenses if they possess a commercial license. Further, it must be clearly indicated whether the meat is Jhatka or Halal to avoid public sentiment conflicts.

Mayor Gurjar emphasized during a recent Executive Committee meeting that the unanimous proposal mandates clarity for consumers regarding the type of meat they purchase. This decision, she noted, aligns with the constitutional right to freedom of choice and aims to prevent any confusion or hurt sentiments among the public.

To ensure compliance and transparency, letters have been sent to public representatives across all 150 wards to identify legal and illegal meat shops. Mayor Gurjar stressed the importance of maintaining cleanliness in holy places, especially with the approaching Shravan month, and reiterated her commitment to public sentiment and environmental hygiene during the festival season.

Meanwhile, in a related development, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has required food and beverage shops along Kanwar routes to display operator/owner identities to uphold pilgrims' faith. Furthermore, actions will be taken against those selling halal-certified products. (ANI)
