Stalin Reinforces Amma Canteens with Rs 21 Crore Allocation

He denounced rumors that the canteens would shut down and highlighted the government's commitment to maintain them. Stalin emphasized their efforts to feed over one lakh people daily.

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin undertook an inspection of a government-run Amma Canteen on Friday, during which he allocated Rs 21 crore for refurbishing these low-cost eateries and enhancing their services.

Stalin criticized political opponents for spreading 'rumors' about the potential shutdown of the Amma canteen chain post the DMK government's ascension to power. He reaffirmed the administration's commitment to maintaining these canteens, which serve over one lakh people daily.

Launched in 2013 by former Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa, Amma canteens have been a crucial social initiative. Stalin mentioned that Rs 450 crore has been spent in the past three years by the Greater Chennai Corporation on Amma canteens, ensuring they continue catering to the poor and ordinary people.
