Three people have been confirmed dead following the derailment of the Chandigarh-Dibrugarh Express, according to North Eastern Railway on Friday. Seven individuals have been critically injured, while five sustained minor injuries. CPRO Pankaj Kumar reported these figures as part of the final update.
Efforts are being concentrated on restoration, with over 800 workers on the ground. The derailed coaches have been removed from the down line, and operations on the upline are expected to resume shortly. Train diversions are currently in place.
Divisional Railway Manager Aditya Kumar indicated that the restoration work is likely to be completed by evening. Four to five front coaches derailed, prompting an immediate response from medical teams and senior officials. A high-level inquiry, in addition to the Commissioner of Railway Safety's investigation, has been ordered.
