Union Minister for Youth Affairs and Sports, Mansukh Mandaviya, announced the government's commitment to ensure athletes live with dignity and respect post-retirement. His remarks came during the AIFF Award Night 2024 in New Delhi.

Mandaviya discussed the Khelo India Rising Talent Identification (KIRTI) Programme, aiming to identify one lakh talents in the first 100 days of the Modi 3.0 government. He expressed concern over national-level athletes struggling financially after their sporting careers end.

He praised PM Narendra Modi for his efforts in promoting sports, noting significant achievements such as seven Olympic medals. Mandaviya also spoke about Modi's vision of a 'Viksit Bharat' by 2047, setting a target for India to rank in the top five in global sports by then. He emphasized the importance of supporting both athletes and their coaches.
