The Economic Survey 2023-24 highlights the expanding role of India's capital markets in national economic growth, driven by technology, innovation, and digitisation. Tabled in Parliament, the document emphasizes the markets' robustness against global geopolitical and economic shocks.
Amid escalating geopolitical risks, rising interest rates, and commodity price volatility, Indian capital markets have emerged as top performers among emerging markets in fiscal year 2024, the survey reveals.
The BSE benchmark Sensex soared by around 25% in FY24 and continued its upward trajectory into FY25, crossing the 80,000 mark intraday on July 3 for the first time. Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman attributed this success to India's solid macroeconomic fundamentals, resilience to global shocks, and strong domestic investor base.
