Kremlin Defends Arctic Cooperation with China Against U.S. Criticism

The Pentagon had expressed concerns in a recent report about Moscow and China's growing activities in the Arctic, suggesting potential regional instability. The report noted Russia's reopening of Soviet-era military sites and China's interest in mineral resources and new shipping routes.

Responding to the Pentagon's concerns, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov insisted that Russian-Chinese cooperation in the Arctic was solely for fostering stability and was not directed against any third countries. Peskov emphasized that both nations aim to maintain a stable and predictable environment in the Arctic region, which is strategic for Russia.
