Massive Boost for Water Resource Management in 2024-25 Budget

The 2024-25 budget for the Department of Water Resources, River Development, and Ganga Rejuvenation has surged by 55% to Rs 30,233.83 crore. Major projects, including irrigation and flood control initiatives, have received significant financial support. Key programs like the Namami Gange Mission-II and Atal Bhujal Yojana have seen substantial budget increases.

The Department of Water Resources, River Development, and Ganga Rejuvenation has seen its budget surge to Rs 30,233.83 crore for 2024-25, a 55% rise from last year's Rs 19,516.92 crore allocation.

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman announced significant financial support for major irrigation and flood control projects, including Rs 11,500 crore for nationwide initiatives. The Namami Gange Mission-II, aimed at rejuvenating the Ganga, also received a substantial boost.

Financial allocations have increased for key programs like the Farakka Barrage Project, Dam Rehabilitation and Improvement Programme, and groundwater management initiatives under the Atal Bhujal Yojana. Additionally, funds were allocated for the Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchai Yojana and the National River Conservation Plan.
