INS Brahmaputra Warship Accident: Navy Launches Search for Missing Sailor Amid Probe

Vice Admiral Krishna Swaminathan addresses the unfortunate fire incident aboard INS Brahmaputra, currently docked in Mumbai. The navy is searching for a missing sailor and plans are underway to assess and revive the warship. Navy Chief Admiral Dinesh Tripathi has ordered a detailed probe into the accident.

Vice Admiral Krishna Swaminathan expressed sadness over the fire incident involving the INS Brahmaputra warship, which is now tilting to one side at the Naval Dockyard in Mumbai. A sailor is missing, and efforts are underway to locate him.

'It is a sad incident but the navy will inquire into what happened and whatever corrective measures need to be taken will certainly be taken. The ship had a fire, like all of you know and in fighting the fire, a lot of water was used. Perhaps because of that, some of the stability of the ship may have gotten upset so the ship just tilted to one side and is resting on the jetty,' Swaminathan stated on Tuesday. The missing sailor was last seen trying to swim ashore.

Swaminathan assured that the ship could be righted and damage assessed. 'We don't know where the sailor is. He was seen trying to swim ashore after exiting the ship. There is a search for him, and we will try to locate him wherever he is,' he added. Navy Chief Admiral Dinesh Tripathi, who reviewed the damage, instructed sailors to focus on reviving the ship.

The Naval headquarters has ordered a detailed probe, led by a Rear Admiral, to determine the causes and accountability. Tripathi emphasized careful handling of national assets during his review in Mumbai. A Board of Inquiry has been tasked with finding out the exact reasons for the accident in a time-bound manner.

A fire had broken out on INS Brahmaputra during refit, causing it to list severely. Despite efforts, the ship could not be brought upright and continues to rest on one side. The search for the missing sailor continues, according to Navy officials.
