Delhi Hospital Fire: Charges Filed Against Two Doctors

Delhi police have filed a charge sheet against two doctors, including the owner, in connection with a fire at Baby Care New Born Child Hospital that resulted in the deaths of eight newborns. The case involves severe safety code violations and expired operational licenses.

Delhi police have formally charged two doctors, including the owner, in the tragic fire case at Baby Care New Born Child Hospital, which led to the deaths of eight newborns. The charge sheet was submitted to Karkardooma Court, following the incident that occurred on May 25 in Vivek Vihar.

The accused, Dr. Naveen Khichi and Dr. Akash, are under scrutiny with sections 304, 308, 34 of the IPC, and 75 of the JJ Act now invoked. Chief Judicial Magistrate Vidhi Gupta Anand has scheduled further hearings for August 2, with the defendants having received copies of the charge sheet post-judicial custody expiration.

Represented by Advocates Naveen Kumar Singh and Satyam Singh, the doctors were arrested shortly after the incident. The police investigation has yielded a detailed 1,000-page charge sheet, including testimonies from 80 witnesses. The hospital faced severe criticism for its expired license, inadequate firefighting facilities, and the employment of under-qualified medical personnel. Preliminary inquiries indicate a short circuit as the likely cause of the fire.
