Karnataka Legislative Impasse Over MUDA Scam Discussion

BJP MLAs demand a discussion on the alleged MUDA scam in Karnataka's legislative assembly. However, Council Chairman Basavaraj Horatti deems the topic unworthy of debate, citing procedural rules. Party leaders plan further discussions while facing allegations of partisan conduct and suppressing opposition voices.

BJP MLAs are pressing for a debate on the alleged Mysore Urban Development Authority (MUDA) scams in the Karnataka Legislative Assembly. However, Council Chairman Basavaraj Horatti stated on Wednesday that the issue does not merit discussion. Horatti explained that an adjournment motion from the BJP could not be accepted as it was not a 'regular matter'—pertinent only when the government fails in its duties, such as during riots or floods.

'This happened 3-4 years ago and has just come to the media now,' Horatti remarked. 'Yesterday, they submitted a letter requesting reconsideration, and I am reviewing it. I will meet with the Leader of Opposition and the Leader of the House today to further discuss the matter.'

Meanwhile, BJP MLAs, including Leader of Opposition R Ashok and BJP Karnataka President BY Vijayendra, staged an overnight protest within the assembly demanding a debate. Vijayendra accused the speaker of partisanship, claiming suppression of opposition and their democratic rights. The alleged MUDA scam involves fraudulent activities and acquisition of land worth crores through fake documents.
